Mobility Project Series: Mitsuki Taniguchi Visit

Learning about the world does not always require a plane ticket. Sometimes the world comes to us. In August 2026, the Mobility Division of the International Student Committee (ISC) Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Tanjungpura (FEB UNTAN), opened its Mobility Project Series with a visit from Mitsuki Taniguchi, bringing Japanese language and culture to students at FEB UNTAN and to young learners at SDN 24 Pontianak.

Mobility Project Series: Mitsuki Taniguchi Visit | Monday, 24 August 2026 (Sharing Session) and Thursday, 27 August 2026 (School Program)

What Is the Mobility Project Series?

The Mobility Project Series is a Mobility Division program that turns international exchange into something tangible and close to home. Instead of only introducing scholarships and exchange opportunities, the series invites guests who have lived the experience of crossing borders to meet our students directly.

The Mitsuki Taniguchi visit is the first chapter. It was designed around two goals: sharing global perspectives with university students and giving children their first friendly encounter with another culture.

Day One: Sharing Session at the Japanese Corner

The visit began on Monday, 24 August 2026. ISC Mobility members gathered at FEB UNTAN and accompanied Mitsuki from her accommodation at Umamah Kost Syariah to the campus. The main agenda was a 60-minute sharing session at the Japanese Corner, a space that has long been a meeting point for students curious about Japan.

The session gave participants a chance to ask questions openly: what daily life in Japan looks like, how people learn a new language, and what it means to be a guest in a culture that is not your own. For many students, hearing it first-hand felt far more real than reading about it, and it showed that international exposure starts with curiosity and the courage to start a conversation.

Day Two: A Morning at SDN 24

On Thursday, 27 August 2026, the team gathered early at FEB UNTAN and travelled together with Mitsuki to SDN 24. After a short preparation, the program opened at 08.00 with a welcome from the MC, followed by three activities designed to be playful rather than formal.

Learning Japanese Through Songs

The children began with music. Singing is one of the easiest ways to pick up new sounds, and simple Japanese songs allowed them to practise pronunciation without feeling like they were in a lesson.

Interactive Games

Next came games that encouraged the students to move, answer, and cooperate. Laughter filled the room as they tried out the Japanese words and phrases they had just learned.

DIY Origami

The third activity was origami, the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. Each child folded paper step by step, learning patience and focus while creating something to take home.

The morning closed with a Q&A session, where curious students asked Mitsuki about Japan, followed by a documentation session and the closing at 10.00.

Why It Matters

For ISC FEB UNTAN, the visit is a reminder that mobility is not only about studying abroad. It is also about bringing global exposure to our own community, from university students preparing for future opportunities to elementary school pupils who may one day dream of travelling abroad. A few hours of songs, games, and paper folding can plant a seed of curiosity that lasts for years.

Moving Forward

ISC FEB UNTAN extends its sincere gratitude to Mitsuki Taniguchi for her time and energy, to SDN 24 for its warm welcome, and to every committee member who made the visit possible.

Global opportunities begin with a single conversation. Stay connected with ISC FEB UNTAN for the next chapter of the Mobility Project Series.
